AM Weekly Update: 4 April, 2021

Happy happy happy Easter readers! We hope you’ve been soaking up the sun and eating lots of chocolate eggs this bank hol. Apocalypse Music HQ has been enjoying some well needed downtime this weekend so here’s a brief round up of this week’s musical highlights:

Fans of the choral music tradition will have been eagerly anticipating the annual Easter from King’s broadcast on Easter Friday, with its glorious selection of music for Holy Week and Easter performed by The Choir of King’s College Cambridge and the King’s Singers, as well as a selection of readings from the Bible.

The service preceded an extra-special performance of Handel’s Messiah, recorded in lockdown by the renowned English National Opera at The Coliseum, which made for an incredible evening of music and television!

Congratulations to the Cambridge University Boat Club for their victorious triumph (x2!) over Oxford this weekend. Although not a strictly musical affair, we’d like to give a shout out to our friend Callum Sullivan, Captain of the Men’s squad, french horn player AND fellow music grad of the class of 2020.

A bit of sad news to report ~ acclaimed soprano Jane Manning sadly passed away this week aged 82. A huge advocate of contemporary works and emerging composers, she will be remembered fondly as an indefatigable interpreter of new music.

That’s all for now, folks ~ thanks for reading! Stay tuned for brand new features and Apocalypse Sessions from some of the industry’s hottest upcoming talent coming soon.
