AM Weekly Update: 23rd May, 2021

Hello and happy Sunday readers! It’s a brief weekly update from us this week, and there’s a whole lot of action hot off the press from last night to catch up on ….

Europhiles from all over the world united for the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Rotterdam last night! As ever a spectacle of the colourful, the camp, the queer and the utterly ridiculous, rock and roll band Måneskin brought the trophy home for Italy with their punk-funk number, Zitti E Buoni.

Italian frontman Damiano David in particular had fans swooning over his cool edgy posterior, while the UK scored an abysmal nil points despite being represented by none other than the Brit-Award winning artist James Newman … sad but hardly surprising given our track record in the competition! It was safe to say that one man and one man only stole the show though, for all the wrong reasons:

*** HINT: If you’re massively lost, here’s a clue (ft. the dulcet tones of comedy legend Will Ferrell) ~

The Lady Gaga fans amongst you might have also raised a few eyebrows at Cyprus’ entry this year, which had us all playing a sonic game of spot the difference …

Chorus sound familiar? Either way, we STAN!

Last night was a doubly big night for music as the organisers of Glastonbury hosted a one-off, five-hour special livestream concert called Live at Worthy Farm, featuring a diverse roster of artists including Coldplay, Jorja Smith, HAIM and Wolf Alice, with each set being performed in a different location around the farm. Sadly the show was blighted by a number of major technical issues, which left ticket holders swiftly remunerated and nostalgic for the real thing (soggy tents and all) … Here’s hoping that Glastonbury as we know it will be set to return in 2022!

You can enjoy a number from Coldplay’s electric set for free here, filmed in front of the iconic Pyramid Stage (the videography here is to die for):

For a lot of us, it has been a week of firsts: first pint indoors, first concert of the year, first rehearsal altogether as a group!
